Jacobus Vrel. Enigmatic Forerunner of Vermeer from 17 June to 17 September 2023 The works of Jacobus Vrel intrigue and fascinate. Many of them have long been attributed to Vermeer. The exhibition attempts to answer the question: who was this mysterious seventeenth-century Dutch painter? Rein Dool. Drawings from 17 June to 17 September 2023 Drawing has been at the heart of the work of Rein Dool (born in Leiden in 1933) for more than seventy years. His work consists of landscapes, portraits, still lifes and figures, often semi-abstract. Process. Design Drawings from the Rijksmuseum 1500–1900 from 25 February to 14 May 2023 Selected, studied and explored by Reinier Baarsen, Curator emeritus at the Rijksmuseum, almost two hundred drawings relating to the decorative arts from the sixteenth to the nineteenth centuries from the museum in Amsterdam are presented to the French public for the first time. Collection of the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium Cabinet of Dutch Drawings. The 18th Century from 25 February to 14 May 2023 The ‘Cabinet’ that the Fondation Custodia opens in Paris in the spring of 2023, with a selection of 80 drawings, provides a better understanding and appreciation of the art of drawing at a time when commerce, science and culture were experiencing unprecedented development in the Netherlands. Fondation Custodia Nineteenth-century French Drawings from 8 October 2022 to 8 January 2023 The Fondation Custodia presents an anthology of 19th-century French drawings from its collections. The exhibition features works by major artists of French art and also showcases talents that were famous in their time, but are somewhat forgotten today or completely unknown. Drawn to the Everyday Léon Bonvin (1834–1866) from 8 October 2022 to 8 January 2023 Forty years after the only retrospective devoted to him on the other side of the Atlantic, the Fondation Custodia is organising a major exhibition dedicated to Léon Bonvin, an artist who is now rare and much sought after by the greatest museums and the most discerning amateurs. Open-air Painting 1780-1870 True to Nature from 3 December 2021 to 3 April 2022 The exhibition brings together over one hundred and fifty oil studies from the collections of the Fondation Custodia in Paris, the National Gallery of Art in Washington, The Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge and a private collector, offering a fresh look at open-air landscape painting in Europe between 1780 and 1870. Always Looking Charles Donker from 3 December 2021 to 3 April 2022 The technique and the renowned delicacy of the work of Charles Donker (born in 1940), place him among the greatest Dutch graphic artists of his time. The Fondation holds a large selection of his engravings, but in the exhibition a choice of his drawings and watercolours will also be shown for the first time. Drawing the Human Figure in Italy 1450-1700 Studi & Schizzi from 15 February to 6 September 2020 The Fondation Custodia exhibits 86 of the 600 Italian drawings in its collection, executed by artists from the Renaissance to the Baroque period (Filippino Lippi, Andrea del Sarto, Federico Barocci, the Carracci family, Palma Giovane, Guercino, ...). Etchings Anna Metz from 15 February to 6 September 2020 The exhibition of the work of Anna Metz (born in Rotterdam in 1939) covers the whole of her output, from her first prints made during the 1960s to the polychrome etchings of wooded landscapes executed by her last summer after a journey to Spain. À bois perdu Siemen Dijkstra from 15 February to 6 September 2020 Siemen Dijkstra (1968) lives and works in the village of Dwingeloo, in Drenthe in the Netherlands, where he produces spectacular coloured woodcuts. A Dutch Impressionist Willem Bastiaan Tholen (1860-1931) from 21 September to 15 December 2019 This retrospective dedicated to Willem Bastiaan Tholen contains about one hundred works (paintings, drawings, prints), from Dutch museums and private collections as well as from the Fondation Custodia. Works on Paper Palézieux (1919-2012) from 21 September to 15 December 2019 One hundred years after the birth of the Swiss artist Gérard de Palézieux, the Fondation Custodia is paying homage to him with this show focusing on his graphic work. Family Portraits Frans Hals from 8 June to 25 August 2019 Frans Hals (1582/83-1666) is one of the greatest portrait painters of the Dutch Golden Age. This exhibition brings together his four known family portraits. Works from the Fondation Custodia Children of the Golden Age from 8 June to 25 August 2019 Children are central figures in family portraits, and they also form a separate subject for many seventeenth-century Dutch and Flemish painters. Paintings and Works on Paper Marian Plug from 8 June to 25 August 2019 Alongside Frans Hals’s family portraits, the Fondation Custodia presents works by the Dutch painter and graphic artist Marian Plug. The Pushkin Museum Five Hundred Years of Master Drawings from 2 February to 12 May 2019 This first large retrospective exhibition in France of the works on paper from the Moscow museum contains examples from the European and Russian Schools, dating from the 15th to the 20th centuries. Modern Japanese prints 1900-1960 Waves of renewal from 6 October 2018 to 6 January 2019 The exhibition offers an exciting opportunity to discover the work of artists who bear witness to the twentieth-century modernisation of Japan. It explores the twin movements shin hanga and sōsaku hanga through more than two hundred prints, the work of about fifty artists. Prints from the British Museum The American Dream: pop to the present from 2 June to 2 September 2018 The exhibition features more than 100 prints by 42 American artists, providing an exciting overview of the development of printmaking in the United States since 1960. The Sublime Landscape Georges Michel from 27 January to 29 April 2018 Discover Georges Michel (1763-1843) in the first exhibition devoted exclusively to the work of this French artist for fifty years.
