‘Chantier de construction au Tréport’, as the study was called in Caruelle d’Aligny’s estate. The location on the Normandy coast can still be identified – the white chalk cliffs and the buildings around the port with alternating pink and white houses have changed very little. Caruelle d’Aligny kept to a limited palette and united the composition by bringing the mossy green back in various places and choosing a colour close to it in tone for the inner water of the harbour. The sophisticated way the boat with the crew on board has been cropped looks modern.
