Thomas de Keyser recorded for posterity a stained-glass window in the Zuiderkerk in Amsterdam, which had been designed by Pieter Lastman (cf.
no. 43) in 1611 but was removed around 1660. It had been a gift from the guild of goldsmiths and the rare subject offered Lastman – whose design in Berlin has survived – and De Keyser, both of whom had goldsmiths in their families, the opportunity to depict valuable gold and silver objects. The animated figures and the detailed depiction of the treasures, which include the famous Suzanna tazza
by Adam van Vianen of 1612, shows De Keyser’s continued indebtedness to the older master.
