 A new, expanded edition of the reference work Les marques de collections de dessins & d'estampes by Frits Lugt is planned in 2010. For many collectors, dealers and art historians the name Lugt is associated with two unrivalled works of reference which are still indispensable: Les marques de collections de dessins & d'estampes by Frits Lugt, appeared in 1921, followed by a supplement volume in 1956. This survey of collectors’ marks contains a wealth of information about print and drawing collectors and the vicissitudes of their collections. Since the publication of the Supplement to Lugt's Marques de collections (1956), many other marks have been discovered and numerous collectors and printrooms have adopted new marks. Moreover, Lugt's descriptions of the marks now sometimes need corrections and additions. Since 1999 the Fondation Custodia is working on a new expanded edition. The new edition of Les Marques de collections will be published in the spring of 2010 in the form of a database on the Internet. To complete the project the Fondation Custodia is working in collaboration with the Département des Arts Graphiques of the Musée du Louvre in Paris, the Rijksbureau voor Kunsthistorische Documentatie (the RKD) in The Hague, and more recently with the Centre allemand d'Histoire de l'Art in Paris. In 2003 the Société Frits Lugt pour l'étude des Marques de Collections was founded.
